Dr. Joseph Avni-Singer, M.D.

Dr. Avni-Singer, MD is a board certified Developmental-Behavioral pediatrician who has been serving families in Connecticut since 1989.

He feels privileged to provide care for children and families with a range of concerns and developmental differences.  He focuses on helping parents appreciate the complexity of their child’s emerging self and how to foster their growing capacities. He believes firmly that all development occurs in the context of nurturing relationships and that a therapeutic alliance between the clinician and the family is essential to the success of any intervention.

Dr. Avni-Singer graduated from New York University School of Medicine.  After completing residency in pediatrics at Yale New Haven Hospital, he went on to fellowship training in Developmental-Behavioral pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine.  He has been working in the community since 1995, synthesizing developmental pediatrics with a practice in general pediatrics.  In addition, he is an Associate Clinical Professor at Yale, where he is able to teach and supervise pediatric residents and DBP fellows.

Dr. Avni-Singer is the medical director of Benhaven, a school and residential program for teens and young adults with developmental disability.  He is also the pediatric consultant to a number of schools and early childhood development programs.

He lectures at local, state, national and international meetings and has authored chapters on topics related to social and emotional development in young children, enhancing quality in early childhood care, and pediatric challenges in children with autism.

Dr. Avni-Singer has consistently been named as a Top Doc since 2009.
